Last semester we started to plan
and discuss to the class the subject “Field Trip and Seminars” even though this
is supposed to be offered in the first semester. We have been given three sets
of models or types of field trip that to be conducted in the first semester. Model A is composed of one major field trip
that will be held outside Mindanao, one minor field trip that will be held in
Mindanao, one national seminar, and 2 hour – Interpersonal skills seminar.
Model B is composed of one major field trip that will be held outside Mindanao,
two minor field trips here in Mindanao, two seminars here in Mindanao with a
total of 8 hours, and 2 hour – Interpersonal skills seminar. And Model C is
composed of three minor field trips that will be held here in Mindanao, four
seminars here in Mindanao with a total of 16 hours, and 2 hour – Interpersonal
skills seminar.
Within the three models that we
have to choose for this subject Field Trips and Seminars, I chose the Model A.
Why Model A? Let me discuss the reasons why did I chose this type of model one
by one. First let’s start for the minor field trip that will be done only here
in Mindanao. Though I did not know for now the company that we will be visiting
and where do the company is located but I hope that we will be visiting a
company that has higher knowledge of the recently used technology that are commercialized
in the IT industry and I hope that they have systems that can become my
references for the upcoming projects that will be given to us in the university.
This model also covers a two hour
– Interpersonal skills seminar that is very great because it is very suitable
for our course which is Information Technology because nowadays I sense that
our subjects this past semester are mostly done within a group that is composed
of specific number of members that is assigned by the instructor. And I think
that this kind of seminar will help us a lot to develop our interpersonal
skills so that we can learn to communicate very well in our team. This can help
us enhance our skills to interact to other people individually and in a team
because someday when we will start to work in our profession a project is always
performed by team.
Let me also discuss to you the
other reasons why did I choose the Model A. It is because of the major field
trip that will be done outside Mindanao and because it has also a national
seminar that will be held in Manila. Since I was a kid I dreamed that I can
ride to an airplane and I like to experience what do it feels when you were
aboard inside an airplane and this time is the chance to experience the dream
that I am dreaming when I was a kid. Another reason is that I never had gone
before in Manila and other places there in Luzon, so I feel excited when I heard
that the field trip and seminars will be held there. I also want to see how big
and large the structured building there in Metro Manila because I know that
buildings here in Davao are very small compared to the buildings there in Metro
Manila.
Aside from that reasons, I want
to attend the largest conference for Information Technology students here in
the country as far as I know and it is the Y4IT that is occurred every year. And
every year the seminar is always held at the top leading university here in the
country the University of the Philippines and I always wanted to see how huge the
university is composed of and I want see the facilities that they are using in
their IT department, but sad and happy to say this year the Y4IT will be held
in Mall of Asia. This seminar will be good to us because we can learn from
various speakers about their experiences from their jobs, they can also
motivate us to strive harder to achieve our dreams, and can also teach us about
what they do in their past or present jobs.
The true purpose of this field
trip is to visit some companies that are related to Information Technology and
for Computer Science and that’s why I to go on with this model because I see
the big difference between the companies here Davao and the companies there in
Metro Manila. And we all know that some of the companies that are located here
in Davao is only a branch meanwhile the main branch or their central office is
located in Metro Manila. And that’s why the machineries and the technologies
that are being used by the companies there in Metro Manila are expected to
become more advance than here in Davao and usually companies that have a branch
here are most likely have no ICT department because of the reason that they
have centralized technologies and they only monitor the activities and diagnose
if there are problems occurred in other branches. And I want to see how their IT
department works do in the systems that they are applying in their companies. I
also want to know how they maintain the systems that they are using so that they
can provide a great service for their consumers.
Even though this model is very
expensive but it is worth to pay for because we can have new learnings that we
can implement new ideas for the incoming projects that will be given to us by
our instructor. It may give us awareness for the new and upcoming technologies
that will be used in the IT industry. And may also help think new ways to think
ideas that can become a way to help others in this country. And I hope that
this field trip will give learnings, happiness, and new experiences.
