3rd Reflection (FTS): Y4IT Seminar

Good day everyone! I am here again to do some reflection for our subject for this semester, “Field Trips and Seminars”. This is our third reflection that has given by our professor for this subject, last time the reflection is about our decision of what are expectation for our first or next plane ride this coming September 16, 2013. And now our reflection is about our expectations in attending a national seminar for Information Technology students, the Y4IT.
What is Y4IT all about? Y4IT served as a hub for computer enthusiasts and technopreneur to share ideas and talk about the latest breakthrough in Information Technology. It is considered as the biggest gathering of IT experts and professionals, students and educators. This coming September 17 – 19, 2013, another Y4IT convention will be held to gather the said participants and this time around this convention will be performed at SMX Convention Center, Pasay City. And according to their website it was been a decade since this event begun and it had catered a total of 105, 000 participants since 2003. Yearly it was performed and I guess that there are lots of ideas that had been shared from this conference and also many of these ideas that had been shared became successful by the support of the partners of this organization. And this coming September 17 -19, 2013, I expect that this event will share many ideas and motivate many minds to think and create powerful and innovative ideas to support our industry.
With the help of the international speakers that will talk about their success when they first come up with an idea and evolve it to a business that gave them money to earn and make them a successful technopreneurs in the industry. And I expect that there are many successful technopreneurs and professionals as the speakers and will be present in the convention just as said in the program that is posted in their website. Like for example on the first day the speakers are Ms. Rhea Althea Guantalilib which is currently working for Smart Communications Inc. as a Software Development Analyst, Paul Rivera which is the founder and CEO of Kalibrr, which is the “world’s first Massive Open Assessments and Training platform that gets people jobs and delivers pre-qualified talent at scale to companies.”, another is Christy Book-Tsang which is a Master Affiliate of the Linux Profession Institute.
I expect that many people will attend in this convention and for it is a national seminar I expect that there are delegates that will come from the different cities in the country and maybe there some delegates that will come another country just to listen the ideas that will be discussed in the convention. And another thing why do I expected many delegates is because they changed the venue from last year’s seminar. Last year the venue was on the University of the Philippines but now they changed it to SMX Convention Center at Pasay City. I hope that I can meet new people in this seminar because there is no bad reason to have new acquaintances and share our own perspective about what is the current status of our industry nowadays and come up with an idea that can change or can help many people through our technology.
It is also a good opportunity to make a decision of what do I specialize in the IT industry so that someday I will become a successful technopreneur and maybe this seminar will guide me through that. Maybe it can give me an inspiration or some tips to pursue that dream that I am longing for. Maybe this seminar will guide us to find many opportunity that will make us a competitive person and challenge to make to things that can help for the betterment of the community.
I also expected that when I the seminar goes by I may realize or they can make me realize the true importance of Information Technology in this days. What are the knowledge or learnings that we can teach or preach to the people that until this day do not know how technology is evolving or maybe what can we do to them to learn fast of our evolving technology. I am amazed that this days our technologies have covered a lot of categories from a simple idea to a complex but a comprehensive technology.
There are many inspirational talks that are being set for this event but we have limited time to attend this seminar and we cannot listen to all this inspirational talks because we can only attend in this convention for just only one day and that is only on the first day of the convention because we also have allotted time for the next days as we are having our field trip and this seminar is only a part for our field trip. Yet, even if can only attend the seminar on the first day only, I expect that we can come up with a new idea that we can based on the shared ideas by the IT experts that attends in this convention. Maybe we can combine the ideas and make a new one that will become a nice proposal for our upcoming IT Project. Or maybe it can motivate our minds to develop our hidden talents that has been there for the last three of being part of the IT community.

This seminar is surely one of the biggest event that I ever attended of being an Information Technology student it is because it only happens in Manila and not all IT students here in Davao City will be able to attend this big event. And I am very lucky to be able to attend this big gathering of IT experts and IT enthusiasts as well as the students from different schools of the country. This can help me broaden my insight of being an IT student and it may help me to find the answers of the struggles of being a student and soon to be a part of the IT industry someday.

Second Reflection (FTS): A Dream Come True

Good day everyone! I am here again to do some reflection for our subject for this semester, “Field Trips and Seminars”. This is our second reflection that has given by our professor for this subject, last time the reflection is about our decision of what should we choose from the three models for our field trip. And now our reflection is about our expectations for our first or next plane ride.
Since I was a child I’ve been longing to ride to an airplane and I always wondering what do I experienced when I will be riding in the airplane hundreds of feet above the ground. What do the things look like when you look from a window on a flying plane? This coming September 16, 2013 my will come true as we are leaving for our field trip that will be held on Manila. I am so excited for this coming event because this is my first time to ride an airplane on my 18 years of existence in my life. This my first time to enter an airport and I am so excited what do it looks like when enter there, I am also curious about the procedures when you are boarding to an airplane like when you are about to check-in and give your ticket to the attendant. And when you are passing through in there security like taking off the metals that you are wearing just like the belts, bracelets and other stuff that have metals. I also want to see what do it like when your baggage is passing through in their x-ray scanner, sounds lame but just ignore me because I am only curious about it. And when you are waiting in the departure area and watching the planes parking in their terminals, how big do it look like because when you see it flying above the skies it just like as big as your airplane toy.
I also want to experience the feeling when the plane is taking off because they say that it is an ear-deafening moment because of the pressure that will be entering in the holes of your ears due to the plane is ascending to hundreds of feet from the ground. They say that it is a weird experience when the plane is taking off because it runs in the runway very fast and will suddenly fly from ground that they say, “parang bubunutin ang iyong kaluluwa at maiiwan sa lupa”, sounds hilarious right? But that is what they say and I don’t know if it is true because it will be my first time. I also want to see what do it looks like when you look from the airplane and see the grounds below is it true that you will only see green because you are very far from the ground that other things will not be seen in it.
I expect for this flight that it will be fun and a memorable one as the plane traveling to our destination like sharing ones experiences when the plane is taking off and others are sharing they see below the ground. I expect that the stewardess will explain the dos and don’ts that we will obey as we are travelling in the air. They will inform us what to do when there are some unexpected scenes that will happen. I also expected that the foods that are being sold inside the plane are being doubled in terms of pricing, so I am planning not to buy some in the plane because I have no budget for that and the travel is almost 2 hours only and I am sure that I will be busy sightseeing to the sceneries from above.
But aside of being excited there are some worries that are struggling in my mind as days go nearer for this event. First, our flight will be so early in the morning the time of our flight is 5’o clock in the morning and we all know, mostly, the rules of the airplane companies you should check-in in the airport 2 hours before your flight and it will 3’o clock in the morning. Maybe I cannot sleep the night before the flight because of being excited for a dream come true. Second, I am worried because lately there are some news that are being aired that there are planes crashing due to some errors like pilot errors, engine failure or like the incident recently that happened here in Davao City International Airport that the lights in the runways suddenly turned off and the pilot did not know where do he lands the plane and that reason why the plane lands outside the runway and specifically it is a Cebu Pacific plane and that will be the plane that will be going to aboard when we go to Manila for our Field Trip. And I hope that this time the Cebu Pacific manage had fixed the troubles that they are encountering recently. And I hope that they studied very well the errors that their planes have been reported recently. Lastly, I am worried that when we arrive in Manila specifically in Ninoy Aquino International Airport by baggage will not be in the baggage tray, what if it was swapped when we are in Davao and being loaded to the other plane (wag na man sana.. :D).

But all the danger are always part of your life, and the only thing, is we do not know when do it will happen and only God knows when will it happen. So we must trust God that he will give us a safe and a memorable trip that we will always remember as part of being a student. This is not the first and last that I will be traveling in the air, perhaps when I graduate from the university I can travel through plane again. Traveling by land is fun but it is more fun to travel by air. May God bless our field trip.
